Covid-19 And Your Business Rates

Covid-19 has impacted the UK in an unprecedented manner. The pandemic, it turns out, has not provided an opportunity for all business owners to recover savings on their business rates. Click Here to read GN’s comments.

Here is a timeline that summarises the main events which have impacted the rating world:

Support Grant available for each 28-day cycle for OPEN businesses:

Applicable 14 October 2020 to 4 November 2020

  • £934 where the rateable value is £15,000 or less;

  • £1,400 where the rateable value is between £15,001 and £50,999;

  • £2,100 where the rateable value is £51,000 or above

Support Grant available for each 14-day cycle for OPEN businesses:

Applicable 2 December 2020 to 4 January 2021

  • £467 where the rateable value is £15,000 or less;

  • £700 where the rateable value is between £15,001 and £50,999;

  • £1,050 where the rateable value is £51,000 or above

Christmas Support Payment:

Applicable 2 December 2020 to 29 December 2020

  • One-off payment £1,000

  • Wet-led public houses

  • Under 50% of turnover from food sales

Support Grant available for lockdown period for CLOSED businesses:

Businesses that were open as usual before lockdown, but were then required to close between 5 November and 1 December 2020 due to the imposition of national restrictions

  • £1,334 where the rateable value is £15,000 or less;

  • £2,000 where the rateable value is between £15,001 and £50,999;

  • £3,000 where the rateable value is £51,000 or above

Support Grant available for each 14-day cycle for CLOSED businesses:

Applicable 2 December 2020 to 4 January 2021

  • £667 where the rateable value is £15,000 or less;

  • £1,000 where the rateable value is between £15,001 and £50,999;

  • £1,500 where the rateable value is £51,000 or above
