Audit of historic rates keeps haulage company on the move

When Goodman Nash contacted haulage company Bevan Transport suggesting we could help them reclaim overpaid business rates, the response from the fourth-generation, family-run business was initially hesitant. Our offer sounded too good to be true. Besides, they already had an established relationship with a firm of surveyors who looked after their property portfolio.

Our team explained that, as proven property auditors dealing only in business rates, we had identified a discrepancy in how the company’s business rates had been calculated by the local council, and believed that some of the many regulations had not been applied correctly. We were offering a no win, no fee check on their behalf.

The family agreed to work with Goodman Nash, who contacted their local council and identified several exemptions and reliefs that applied to the company’s property. Just a few weeks later, Bevan Transport received a refund for more than £10,000 dating back three years.

At a time of ever-increasing business expenses, the family were delighted with the result. If your business already employs a firm of rating surveyors to investigate your rateable value, Goodman Nash’s unique expertise can still uncover further opportunities to save through an audit of historic rates paid.
